Pedals for Progress

Documenting the work of Pedals for Progress in Nicaragua, The Bicycle City is a documentary film in post production. It looks really good and hopefully is an inspiring vehicle for bringing more bikes to places that need them. Pedals for Progress is one of my FAVORITE charities – they collect bicycles & sewing machines(!) in the US and donate them to places where they are needed.

Bicycles for Humanity

is a non-profit with local chapters across Canada, the US, Australia and England. They are specifically focused on supporting bicycle mobility in Africa, from sending bikes and funding bike programs to publicizing the hugely positive effect that bicycles can have on those communities. They work with an extraordinary Canadian bike tour company that organizes the Tour d’ Afrique, from Cairo to Capetown.

  1. World Bicycle Relief is another such project. I’m hoping to enlist women bike bloggers in helping raise funds so we could outfit an entire school with bikes–more on that here

Thanks for highlighting the importance of bikes around the world!
