No matter if you want the independence of being your own mechanic or if you’re too broke to pay bike shop service fees, the totally free bike maintenance workshops at Times Up! are the best thing going on in the DIY bike community in New York. Usually there are two locations: one in the Lower East Side and another in Williamsburg, but due to construction all the workshops are being held at the Brooklyn location.

Need to fix something specific? Regular specific topic workshops, likes “Gears & Brakes” are on the schedule, as well as open-ended open workshops staffed by a professional bike mechanic volunteer. They have all the tools you need and (super valuable in NYC) dedicated space where it’s ok to work on a bike, even if it’s really dirty. There’s even women’s & trans only nights on Tuesdays if you don’t want to have to deal with… you know… dudes.

Now, there’s no excuse for not having a bike in proper working order!

Time’s Up! maintains their calendar of rides, workshops and events, here.
