Saturday November 19th NYC kicks off the 13th annual Cranksgiving charity ride. Some race for speed competing for some of the best prize swag in town. But the majority of participants are there to have a great time and contribute to a good cause in other categories such as, “most generous.” Listen to NYC organizer Ken Stanek on Bicycle Radio talk about it.

Something that fun & rewarding makes sense in a lot of places and through bike messengers, the race was brought to several other cities. As more and more non-messenger participants grew and more cities started throwing their own versions, sometimes under different names, such as San Francisco’s “Supermarket Street Sweep.” Dates, sponsors and beneficiaries vary for each city, but no matter where they are held it’s one of the most fun holiday events of the season.

If you don’t feel like riding, you can also donate via the Cranksgiving website.
