In the perfect intersection (!) of all my favorite things, there’s a new public service campaign happening to promote bicycling AND being a nice human being. Will it go over in NYC or just make us look super awesome to other cities? The images alone just might be gorgeous enough to fool even the grumpiest driver into a little light hearted design zen. Aesthetic aside here’s the story behind the images:
On the eve of Citi Bike NYC’s expansive bike share system and to celebrate the launch of BikeNYC.org, T. A. teamed up with the marketing gurus at Mother NY to create the Bike Like a New Yorker ad campaign. Thanks to generously donated billboards and printing from Edison, Van Wagner and Duggal, Bike Like a New Yorker will soon be broadcast on scores of billboards across New York (stay tuned for exact locations. This campaign, and the parties involved, speaks to the enormous and growing profile of bicycling in NYC at this unique moment. This is thanks in large part to amazing folks like you!
You can see all of the Bike Like a New Yorker ads on BikeNYC.org: http://bikenyc.org/take-action
To help us amplify the campaign and get a positive conversation going, we started up a hashtag on Twitter: #bikelikeanewyorker. It would be awesome if you all Tweeted your thoughts on what it means to Bike Like a New Yorker, and ask your online networks to do the same. Let’s continue to build a bigger platform for positivity about bicycling and bring in new friends to the mix. If you haven’t heard from him already, expect some direct messages from our communications coordinator, Joe, asking you to Tweet with the hashtag too! Here is a flavor of what folks have said so far: https://twitter.com/#!/search/
